A nonossifying fibroma is a common benign bone tumor in children and adolescents. However, it is controversial whether it represents a true neoplasm or rather a developmental disorder of growing bone. Radiographically, the tumor presents as a well marginated radiolucent lesion, with a distinct multilocular appearance. These foci consist of collagen rich connective tissue, fibroblasts, histiocytes and osteoclasts. They originate from the growth plate, and are located in adjacent

Ossifying fibroma is a benign fibro-osseous lesion of the jaw and is also known as cement-ossifying fibroma since it arises from the periodontal ligament affecting the tooth-bearing areas of the jaws.1 Some of these lesions grow aggressively, especially in young children, and have been termed as juvenile ossifying fibroma (JOF) or active ossifying fibroma. Juvenile ossifying fibromas (JOFs) are a rare group of fibro-osseous lesions, typically of odontogenic origin. Juvenile psammomatoid ossifying fibroma (JPOF) is one variant, that is, histopathologically distinguished by spherical ossicles resembling psammoma bodies. JPOF tumours are most commonly found in craniofacial skeletal structures and can be locally aggressive. Thus, early management by Juvenile ossifying fibroma (JOF) is a maxillofacial fibro‐osseous lesion that may show cell‐rich osteoid strands or psammoma‐like ossicles. Whether both types are variants of a single entity or different lesions under the same diagnostic label is a subject of debate. The term juvenile (aggressive) ossifying fibroma was used in the literature to describe two variants of ossifying fibroma that occur in younger patients (Box 12-4).

The term juvenile (aggressive) ossifying fibroma was used in the literature to describe two variants of ossifying fibroma that occur in younger patients (Box 12-4). Currently these two entities are referred to as juvenile trabecular ossifying fibroma (JTOF) and juvenile psammomatoid ossifying fibroma (JPOF). Juvenile trabecular ossifying fibroma is a rare tumor with a rather high risk of recurrence. A careful evaluation of the clinical, radiological, and histological components of this lesion is needed to surmount the diagnostic and therapeutic challenges connected with it. Juvenile ossifying fibroma (JOF) is a rare benign bone tumor that occurs most frequently in the craniofacial bones of children and young adults. There are few case reports that describe its Juvenile ossifying fibroma is an aggressive lesion which needs to be differentiated clinically and histologically from other fibro- osseous lesion so that appropriate treatment can be given in accordance with the age of the patient/ keeping in mind the young age of patient. Hudflikar och fibrom är ofarliga och behandlas i stort sett endast av kosmetiska skäl – även om de i vissa fall kan orsaka irritation och klåda p.g.a. skav mot kläder eller smycken.
